Leidos is celebrating Pride Month with initiatives that embody the company’s commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion.
Why you should know: By celebrating observances like Pride Month and partnering with organizations that promote LGBTQ+ inclusion, corporations can help create a lasting impact beyond the month of June.
Led by the Leidos Pride Employee Resource Group (ERG) and its nationwide chapters, the company plans to participate in local Pride activities throughout the month.
Parades and festivals: On Saturday, the group’s DMV chapter sponsored and hosted a booth at the Reston Pride Festival outside company headquarters, the San Diego chapter participated and hosted a booth at Pride by the Beach and the Huntsville chapter participated in the Rocket City Pride Parade.
Tomorrow, the DMV chapter will participate in the Washington Nationals’ eighteenth annual Night OUT celebrating the LGBTQ+ community at Nationals Park.
Learning events: Tomorrow, the San Diego chapter will host a virtual learning event, "Bi the way: Getting to know the bisexual+ community", designed to help employees expand their knowledge, challenge biases and contribute to a more inclusive work environment.
On Friday, the company will host its quarterly virtual Ally Workshop open to all Leidos employees. All year long, Leidos hosts Virtual Pride, a dedicated online space where employees can display their pride.
In a symbol of solidarity, Leidos illuminated its global headquarters in the vibrant colors of the Pride flag over the weekend.
From the source: Henrique Canarim, Leidos Sr. Associate General Counsel and a member of the Leidos Pride ERG national leadership team, said he hopes these initiatives will help foster an inclusive environment and demonstrate the company’s commitment to equality, diversity and respect for all employees, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
“Creating a genuinely inclusive culture means taking year-round action,” says Canarim. “We will continue to advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and provide educational conversations, trainings and awareness about issues that impact us beyond June. I am proud that Leidos understands how important this is and is committed to supporting the Pride ERG and its allies.”
Background: Leidos also works with and supports a number of LGBTQ+ organizations throughout the year including Smyal, Human Rights Campaign, National LGBT Chamber of Commerce, Out & Equal, Out in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and Rainbow Families.
Leidos recently jumped to No. 115 on Forbes’ annual ranking of America’s Best Employers for Diversity, climbing 372 places from its previous spot.
