Five Great Minds in STEM 2021 scholars awarded Leidos scholarships

Five outstanding students pursuing science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) degrees from universities across the country were recently awarded scholarships from Leidos as part of Great Minds in STEM’s (GMiS) 2021 Scholars program. This year’s winners joined 89 other recipients receiving more than $200,000 in financial support.

“We are honored to support and promote academic excellence in STEM as we celebrate the 2021 Leidos Great Minds in STEM scholarship recipients,” said Desira Stearns, Leidos’ director of strategic diversity outreach. “These students are examples of extraordinary STEM excellence in the LatinX community that we are counting on as the innovators and leaders of tomorrow. Congratulations mi familia!”

For more than 30 years, GMiS has served as an educational and national 501(c)3 nonprofit, whose vision is to be a national leader in keeping America technologically strong by promoting STEM careers, especially in underserved communities. This organization was established to enlighten and engage families, educators, communities, and employers to assist underserved students, particularly in the LatinX community, to pursue careers in STEM with national recognition of their academic, professional, leadership, and community achievements. Over $5,000,000 in scholarships have been awarded to over 1,700 college students since 2001.  This funding has supported many first-generation college students in pursuit of engineering degrees and continues today.
