Meet a Leidos Summer Intern: Madeline
Madeline just completed her first month at Leidos and she is thriving! Last summer she was an instructor at Code Ninjas, teaching children how to computer program in languages such as JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. This summer she brings her experience as an instructor, as well as her knowledge and passion gained from being a member of Duke University’s Society of Women Engineers, to her internship at Leidos.
Check out what he has to say about her summer internship experience so far.
Where do you go to school and what are you majoring in?
I am a rising sophomore at Duke University, double majoring in Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) and Computer Science.
You're a Leidos summer intern. Are you doing this in person, hybrid, or virtually?
I’m doing my internship virtually from Warrenton, VA.
Tell us about your internship experience so far.
I’m a software development intern working on the GEOAxIS program. I’ve already had some great experiences in my internship, learning a new programming language and interacting with people in a professional setting. My team has been very welcoming and supportive, and it’s great to be part of a group where everyone is interested in helping me succeed and learn.
What made you decide to apply for a Leidos internship?
I knew I was interested in becoming a software developer, so I was looking for an internship where I could really get an idea of what it’s like to work with a team toward a common goal while also using complex computer programming skills. I was aware that Leidos is a leader in information technology and engineering, so I was super excited to see that they had a software development internship position open.
How will a Leidos internship help you meet your academic and career goals?
I’m hopeful that this internship will confirm that software development is what I want to do as a career, and as a result, I will be able to better focus my class selections on achieving that career goal.
Besides the internship, what else are you up to this summer?
This summer, I’m planning on hiking regularly in nearby Shenandoah National Park. I’m also planning a trip to Utah to go hiking and spend some time outdoors. Additionally, I’m looking forward to relaxing with a good book and reconnecting with family and friends.
