Meet a Leidos Summer Intern: Luke
“Luke has been an exceptional addition to our team,” said Steven Elmore, WAN and boundary engineering manager in the digital modernization sector at Leidos. “Prior to his commencement with Leidos, he proactively studied a new solution we are developing, ensuring he was well prepared from his first day. In recognition of his dedication and contributions, I have extended an internship extension offer to Luke.”
Just because the summer is ending doesn’t mean Leidos internships are too. Co-ops are available during the academic year, giving students like Luke the opportunity to work directly with a team on critical projects.
Check out what Luke has to say about his internship experience so far.
Where do you go to school, what are you majoring in, and when do you graduate?
I am currently pursuing an MBA in information technology management at Western Governors University, and I plan to graduate in December 2024.
You're a Leidos summer intern. Are you doing this in person, hybrid, or virtually?
I am working virtually as a WAN and boundary technical intern under the SMIT contract at Leidos.
Tell us about your internship experience so far.
My internship experience with SMIT has been incredibly rewarding. The exposure to real-world IT challenges and the support from my team, especially from my manager, Steven Elmore, who provides invaluable guidance and encouragement, have significantly enhanced my skills and confidence.
What made you decide to apply for a Leidos internship?
I was drawn to Leidos because I heard about it from a friend at my college and thought it would be a great place to learn a lot. The opportunity to work on significant projects for the Navy and Marine Corps and the chance to learn from experienced professionals were key factors in my decision.
How will a Leidos internship help you meet your academic and career goals?
This internship aligns perfectly with my academic and career aspirations. It provides practical experience that complements my studies in information technology management. The hands-on experience and the mentorship I receive at Leidos are invaluable as I work toward completing my MBA.
Besides the internship, what else are you up to this summer?
This summer, while balancing work and my MBA studies, I have enjoyed spending time with friends and family, going to the gym, and traveling.
At Leidos, whether you join for a summer internship or sign on as a co-op during the academic year, you will have the unique opportunity to work directly with a team on critical projects, either at a Leidos facility or on a customer site.
