Meet a Leidos Summer Intern: Julia

Since starting in May, Julia has been busy putting her education, leadership and volunteer experience to great use as a Leidos Strategic Communications Intern. "Julia really jumped right in and became an integral part of the team," said Catherine Anderson, a Leidos Communications Director. "She's enthusiastic and a true team player and I can't imagine Leidos life without her. We really don't think of her as an intern, rather a key member of our team."

Where do you go to school and what are you majoring in?

I am a rising Senior at James Madison University. I am majoring in Marketing with a concentration in Digital Marketing.

You're a Leidos summer intern. Are you doing this in person, hybrid or virtually?

Virtually but I do plan on attending some of our local events to get to know more people in the Reston area.

Tell us about your internship experience so far.

My internship experience so far has been great! From day one, I was warmly welcomed into the strategic communications team, and everyone has been extremely friendly and supportive. I have had the opportunity to work on various projects and have enjoyed learning about everyone’s different roles within the company. My manager has been very encouraging of me to ask questions and share my ideas, and I am grateful that I can learn so much from someone with so much experience in the industry.

What made you decide to apply for a Leidos internship?

I have always heard of Leidos’ strong reputation which made me confident that Leidos would provide me with valuable industry experience and exposure to impactful projects.

How will a Leidos internship help you meet your academic and career goals?

As a marketing major, I was looking for an internship that would allow me to apply my classroom knowledge to a corporate setting and gain hands on experience. Leidos provided me with the perfect opportunity to work in strategic communications where I could express the skills I learned in college while also learning so much about a field I did not know that much about coming into it. This experience is providing me with insight on effective communication techniques, strategic thinking, and creativity, and allowing me to build connections with professionals in the industry which all will open the door for future growth and opportunities no matter what career path I choose.

Besides the internship, what else are you up to this summer?

Besides the internship, you can find me on the beach reading books and in the gym weightlifting. I am focused on relaxing this summer and enjoying my time with family and friends before the realities of being a senior in college settle in.
