Meet a Leidos Summer Intern: Emily

Leidos offices have been buzzing with summer interns for almost a month now and their fresh ideas have already made a positive impact on the business. Emily, a virtual simulation intern supporting the National Security Sector, has been busy putting her programming skills to use while also expanding her skillsets.

Check out what Emily has to say about her summer internship experience so far.

Where do you go to school, what are you majoring in, and when do you graduate?

I’m attending Seminole State College, majoring in Information Systems Technology with a programming focus. I expect to graduate in December 2025.

You're a Leidos summer intern. Are you doing this in person, hybrid, or virtually?

I am working in-person in Orlando, FL.

Tell us about your internship experience so far.

My internship so far has been a fantastic opportunity to learn and expand my skillset. I had a background in visual modeling from work I did while getting my associate degree, so I was already familiar with the Autodesk modeling suite and some of the other tools I’ve been using. Working on the graphics and modeling for virtual training systems has allowed me to expand on those skills and extend beyond them to new modeling and rendering software. The office has been incredibly welcoming, and I’ve really enjoyed this opportunity so far.

What made you decide to apply for a Leidos internship?

I heard about my internship position through a friend, who has also interned at Leidos. I was really interested in this opportunity because I can gain experience while staying close to school.

How will a Leidos internship help you meet your academic and career goals?

I believe it is imperative to gain as much experience as possible before fully entering the job market at graduation. Through this internship, I hope to gain that practical experience and build the skills necessary to be successful in whatever my future may hold.

Besides the internship, what else are you up to this summer?

This summer I’m attempting to watch all of Star Trek, in in-universe chronological order, with some of my roommates. I also spend my weeknights in the gym and play Dungeons and Dragons on the weekends.

At Leidos, whether you join for a summer internship or sign on as a co-op during the academic year, you will have the unique opportunity to work directly with a team on critical projects, either at a Leidos facility or on a customer site.
