Meet a Leidos Summer Intern: Caroline
Though working in astrophysics is her ultimate career goal, Caroline was intrigued by all the software engineering opportunities that Leidos has to offer. Her Software Development Internship has given her the freedom to explore other careers, and acquire new skills while honing old ones, and it has only just begun!

Where do you go to school and what are you majoring in?
I am pursuing a bachelor’s in Astrophysics and Astronomy with minors in computer science and applied mathematics at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida.
You're a Leidos summer intern. Are you doing this in person, hybrid or virtually?
In-person this summer with Leidos. Upon learning of the software they've provided for many space-related projects, I jumped at the opportunity to see that process and be a part of it.
Tell us about your internship experience so far.
Even though my background is more physics-based than programming-based, the team I'm working with has been incredibly welcoming and it's been great learning from senior developers in the office and further honing my technical skills.
What made you decide to apply for a Leidos internship?
While doing some undergraduate research, a few peers brought to my attention that Leidos deals with a lot of space-related technologies. With my humble knowledge of coding, I decided this would be a great opportunity to not only get a start in the industry but also enrich my software development skills.
How will a Leidos internship help you meet your academic and career goals?
What I'm learning here is so interesting and the professional skills are transferable to nearly any field, so even though I plan on staying with Leidos for the foreseeable future, I feel I'll be prepared for whatever field I ultimately go into.
Besides the internship, what else are you up to this summer?
I'll be hiking and spending lots of time with my dog this summer.
