Leidos teams up with UK military’s first all-female team to row the Atlantic

LONDON (Oct. 15, 2024) – Leidos (NYSE:LDOS) announced today its official sponsorship of the UK military’s first all-female crew as they take on the 3000-mile annual race across the Atlantic this winter.

The Force Atlantic team will be departing mid-December across the North Atlantic Ocean in an 8.5-metre-long rowing boat, unsupported.

Expected to take roughly six weeks, the team of four will be rowing two-hour shifts day and night as they make their way from the Canary Islands to the beaches of Antigua.

As official sponsor, Leidos will be providing both financial assistance and supplies for the trip including ration packs, consumables and clothing to the team.

Eddie Hutton-Fellowes, Director of Logistics at Leidos says, “This historic journey showcases the strength, resilience and determination of these remarkable women.

“The challenge aligns closely with our commitment to foster inclusion and promote opportunities for women in the military, sporting world and industry.

“By working together to champion these causes, we can break down barriers and inspire future generations of women.”

Capt Imogen O’Brien RAMC, Skipper and Physiotherapist, Force Atlantic, says, “Our ambition is to promote women in the military and inspire others that they can do anything they set their mind to.

“We want to highlight the importance of belonging to something bigger than yourself. This is the power you need to succeed.

“Leidos has been crucial in allowing us to get to the starting line. We are grateful for their support which has meant we are prepared on multiple levels, from safety, training and in the creation of our team which ultimately gives us the highest chance of success.”

Leidos is a force for change in the UK Defence industry, currently working with several external organisations including Women in Defence and Women Empowering Defence and was ranked among the top 10 Employers of British Veterans 2024.
