Leidos is No. 209 on Forbes’ list of America’s Best Employers for New Grads.

Why you should know: The list ranks large companies “most liked” by entry level workers based on company image, inclusion and diversity, opportunities for advancement and more.

Only 300 companies made the list, which represents roughly the top 1% of U.S. companies with more than a thousand employees.

Dale Rimmey, who leads the Leidos college recruiting program, said the ability to work in a variety of fields from space exploration to military AI to healthcare technology is a major selling point for the company.

“Young people want to make a difference in the world,” he said. “When they learn about our culture and mission to help make the world safer, healthier and more efficient, they really start to see themselves here.”

The data says: Leidos has hired more than 700 interns and 600 new college grads so far this year and plans to exceed 1,400 total college hires by the end of the year.

  • Roughly 90% of Leidos interns are invited to return for a second internship or become full-time employees.
  • More than 60% of candidates in the company’s college pipeline are minorities or women.

Rimmey said his team actively recruits at nearly 40 colleges and hires in the largest numbers from the University of Maryland, University of Virginia, University of Central Florida, Virginia Tech and George Mason University.

“The energy, ideas and new ways of thinking that young grads bring to our company are very real,” he said. “When we merge them with our experts with decades of experience, they often discover exciting and innovative solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing our world today.”
