Leidos appoints former Director of MOD supply chain

(LONDON) March 4, 2024 – Leidos (NYSE: LDOS), a Fortune 500® innovation company, has announced the appointment of Major General (Retired) Simon Hutchings as Vice President Logistics & Mission Support Division in Leidos UK & Europe. Hutchings becomes the new Managing Director of the Logistics Commodities & Services Transformation (LCST) programme, which Leidos delivers for the Ministry of Defence.

Hutchings, who for the last eight months has served as Director of Strategy for Leidos UK, has a military career spanning over 33 years. As Director of Joint Support, a two-star role under the Ministry of Defence, Hutchings was responsible for the end-to-end supply chain, strategic movements, logistic information system architecture and integrated support solutions for major platform acquisition.

As Vice President of Logistics & Mission Support, Hutchings will oversee the continued transformation of Leidos’ logistics and mission support solutions. This includes the LCST programme, which was cited in a recent Public Accounts Committee hearing as one of the "most complex digital programmes in the public sector."

As a result of his service, Hutchings was recognised as an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2011. The award cited his supply chain work in Afghanistan, having previously been recognised as a Member of the same Order (MBE) in 2004 for his contribution in Iraq.

“My witnessing of Leidos’ contribution to the transformation of the outsourced portion of the MOD’s Supply Chain is what motivated me to want to support that endeavour,” said Hutchings. “Leidos is well-adapted to the challenges it took on through LCST and has an ambition to export its knowhow into other parts of the public sectors’ supply chain. I am particularly proud of LCST’s operational resilience supporting the war in Ukraine and COVID 19. I am committed to further build on the success of this working relationship during what is an unprecedented time for UK Defence and supply chains across the globe.”

“Simon’s extensive experience and knowledge of UK Defence, including through his decorated military career, means he’s well-placed to help oversee the delivery of the LCST programme as well as our broader logistics and mission support work in the UK,” said Eric Freeman, Chief Executive, Leidos UK & Europe. “To date, Leidos’ implementation of technological advancements for one of the world’s foremost military operations has helped generate significant savings for the UK Government. As we continue our close relationship with the Ministry of Defence as one of its prime contractors, we look forward to Simon’s leadership in bringing the full value of Leidos to the Ministry of Defence and beyond.”

In 2015, Leidos was awarded the LCST contract from the Ministry of Defence. The 13-year, £6.4bn contract directs Leidos to deliver digital transformation for the Ministry of Defence. It includes systems that orchestrate the storage and distribution of around 70,000 commodities to over 600 locations globally.
