Hispanic Heritage Month at Leidos
We are excited to announce the kickoff of Hispanic Heritage month, a time to celebrate and honor the influence and contributions of our Latin and Hispanic communities the growth and success in the U.S.
The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon B. Johnson paying homage to the Hispanic and Latin communities’ contributions to the nation and was enacted into law by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 as an entire month. The heritage month starts on the 15th because it marks the independence of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, while Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence on the 16th and 18th, respectively.
This year’s theme, Latinos: Driving Prosperity, Power, and Progress in America, highlights the significant strides of Hispanics in the political, social, and economic growth of the U.S. For decades, new advances in medicine, engineering, and other disciplines have been pioneered by individuals like Luis Alvarez, a physicist who developed radar systems during WWII, and France Cordova, a trailblazing astrophysicist driving innovation for NASA and in academia.
Here at Leidos, we are honored to celebrate the contributions of our extraordinary employees making an impact on our success, influence, innovation, and progress every day. While our similarities unite us, the sum of our differences empower a community of engaged and creative professionals, pioneering innovation along our journey to excellence.
We would not be the industry leader we are without the brilliance and talent of our Latin and Hispanic frontrunners in STEM, healthcare, IT, and every segment of our business.
Inclusion is all of us. Everyone. Every day.
