A challenge many organizations face is balancing the need to sustain legacy systems with the growing pressure to modernize. This is especially true for our customers, as nearly 80% of their IT budgets are focused on maintaining outdated systems. While critical to operations, this focus on sustainment limits the funds available for modernization, ultimately slowing the adoption of new technologies that can improve capability, security, and resilience. As we continue to work with our customers, it’s clear that shifting this balance is essential to accelerating their digital transformation.

An AI revolution in IT and software

At Leidos, we recognized early on the potential for AI to disrupt this legacy-focused spending pattern. AI is transforming how IT and software systems are maintained, helping to break the cycle of costly sustainment by driving greater efficiency and automation. As I’ve observed during my nearly 20 years with the company, Leidos is uniquely positioned to lead this evolution.

Our Trusted Mission AI expertise, combined with our extensive technology footprint, is enabling us to deliver mission outcomes faster with improved security and scalability. AI’s ability to optimize processes and solve problems more quickly is not just enhancing performance but also freeing up resources that can be reallocated to modernization efforts.

Strategic market positioning and partnerships

Leidos holds a unique position in the marketplace. We are a top provider of IT and software solutions to the U.S. government, with over a decade of experience researching and delivering AI solutions. This depth of knowledge and scale puts us in an ideal position to help our customers navigate the complexities of transitioning from legacy systems to modern IT solutions.

Our partnerships with industry-leading commercial providers further strengthen our market leadership. For instance, our collaboration with Sourcegraph leverages their GenAI coding assistant, which is transforming our software development processes. This innovative tool is uniquely suited to our market, offering a broad suite of capabilities that can assist almost any government customer in enhancing their software development while supporting compatibility with the most secure environments.

Additionally, our exclusive partnership with Moveworks differentiates us in delivering GenAI-based IT service desk technology. By deploying their technology within the Leidos IT environment, we have automated the processing of tens of thousands of service requests, showcasing our ability to drive efficiency and enhance service delivery.

AI-driven efficiency gains and modernization

Our Trusted Mission AI-driven solutions are already making a significant impact on operational efficiency. For example, our AI Assistant held 58,000 conversations with Leidos employees in just one quarter, resolving 35,000 issues and saving over 12,000 hours of work. This same technology is now being deployed to our customers, allowing them to realize similar efficiency gains.

In the software space, our Secure Rapid Software solution has cut the time spent reading and understanding legacy code by 50% and reduced the time spent answering questions by 75%. These are substantial efficiency improvements that translate into significant cost savings. Most importantly, they allow customers to shift their IT budgets from sustainment to modernization, driving better outcomes for their organizations and positioning Leidos to deliver even greater value.

Driving the future of IT and software with Trusted Mission AI

As AI continues to disrupt IT and software operations, Leidos is at the forefront of this transformation. Our market scale, Trusted Mission AI expertise, and strong commercial partnerships enable us to deliver superior solutions that help customers modernize more quickly and efficiently. By reducing the burden of legacy system sustainment, we are empowering our clients to invest in the future—ensuring they have the capabilities, security, and resilience needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
