Space Mission Operations

For over 50 years, Leidos has supported mission operations for human space flight. Our responsibilities including planning of mission and research operations, training of the astronauts, flight controllers, and other ground personnel and well as “flying” the mission alongside the astronauts from Mission Control or other telescience centers including our Leidos Operations Center in Webster, TX.

Our high-qualified team is certified for each position including research integration and operations specialists, Mission Control Center – Houston and -Moscow flight control front- and back- room positions, certified crew trainers, baseline data collection team, and subject matter experts for operational decision-making support for radiation, human factors, lighting and other operational critical disciplines.

    • Planning crew’s workday 24 months to one day in advance of operation
    • Replanning crew’s workday daily as operations adjust
  • Trained 500+ employees for certification by NASA as a Mission Control Center Flight Controller

  • 26 years of continuous, uninterrupted, global real-time mission operations support (24/7/365) avoiding collisions with space debris
  • 24 years of continuous, uninterrupted, global real-time mission operations support (24/7/365) ensuring crew safety onboard the ISS
  • Authored, validated, and conducted configuration management on 10K+ flight procedures, authored in a Universal Language understood by multiple National and International Partners
  • Fabricated 5K+ hard copy procedures and checklists certified for flight
  • Developed 1K+ console display tools to track telemetry data effectively and efficiently for analysis and monitoring
