Community
Serving our communities through engaged employees and innovative partners helps us reach our business goals
We support our communities, connect to our business goals, and provide our employees with opportunities to engage. Through our philanthropic efforts, we strive to create a sustainable future that includes partnering with community organizations providing critical services and opportunities to those most in need. Inherent in Leidos’ vision statement is our commitment to strengthen our communities through volunteerism, sustainable operations, and the advancement of equality.
Leidos focuses on four broad categories with an overarching goal of combining charitable giving with employee volunteerism: Education/STEM; Basic Needs and Wellness; National Security Personnel and Their Families; and Ethics and Leadership.
Education/STEM
Leidos is proud to support future innovators as part of our long history of problem-solving and customer service. Starting in early childhood development through college and beyond, Leidos invests time, talent, and other resources to help equip the future generation of thought leaders. Together, with a focus on STEM, our efforts can help make an impact that will address the challenges of tomorrow.
Basic Needs and Wellness
We partner with leading organizations to help provide much-needed resources in our communities. Our efforts include engaging grassroots food banks, building affordable housing, and raising funds for and awareness of major health challenges, including opioid addiction, mental health and suicide, heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. Leidos is deeply committed to mental health and related impacts, so much of our support in this category supports that issue.
National Security Personnel and Their Families
Leidos is proud to have so many veterans as part of our workforce, and to provide a vast array of services to military customers as part of our business. The safety and security of our nation depends on the brave men and women who have taken an oath to protect and serve our country. Given these deep connections, we align our philanthropic and community efforts with military-focused organizations that support active-duty and veteran service members as well as the broader defense and intelligence communities and their families.
Ethics and Leadership
We strive to create a culture of integrity that guides our decisions and behaviors and positively impacts our business community and beyond. We are also engaged in a variety of business and leadership organizations that help represent our efforts across industry.
Charitable Giving and Volunteerism
The purpose of our philanthropic efforts is to enrich our communities and help tackle some of the world’s most significant challenges. We allocate charitable resources (budget, time, and talent) to a variety of causes in alignment with both long-standing and new nonprofit relationships.
In 2022, we donated approximately $5 million to charitable organizations and completed more than 90,000 volunteer hours.
We also encourage our employees to support the causes that are most important to them, and we celebrate their efforts through the Leidos Employee Volunteer Incentive Program. Introduced on Giving Tuesday, the program recognizes employees that go above and beyond in their communities as demonstrated by volunteer hour logging. In 2022, Leidos employees gave more than 90,000 hours of their time to causes that they believed in. The employees with the most hours were highlighted on Leidos’ intranet and recognized by leadership. This commitment is due to a legacy of employee engagement at Leidos that is shared by all employees and is part of Leidos culture.
Our philanthropy is grounded in the following standing policies:
- Organizations must be tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Code to receive a charitable donation.
- Leidos does not support organizations that practice discrimination based on race, gender, age, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, veteran or marital status, or any other protected characteristics as established by applicable law.
- Donations are not made to sectarian or religious organizations (except for programs which are broadly promoted and available to anyone, regardless of religious orientation), political parties, political candidates or partisan political organizations
The Leidos Relief Foundation
The Leidos Relief Foundation (LRF) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization designed to support Leidos employees during times of need. The LRF provides grants to our U.S.-based employees* (including wholly owned U.S. subsidiaries) with demonstrated hardship during state or federally declared emergencies, specifically natural or civil disasters. LRF grants are made possible by the tremendous generosity of individual Leidos employees, as well as the Leidos Board of Directors, who donate money or paid time off (PTO) hours to help assist those in need.
In 2022, the LRF aided 233 impacted employees and distributed almost $600,000 to support those affected by the pandemic and other disasters.
*While the LRF is an IRS 501(c)(3) organization established to assist U.S.-based employees, Leidos supports our international employees through a similar claims process, reviewed and adjudicated by in-country Leidos leadership (separate, but similar and consistent with LRF policy).
