Engineer Roles

Our engineers make up a large portion of our workforce and play a significant role in supporting our operations.

Leidos is a progressive and dynamic company, dedicated to border surveillance and search-and-rescue missions of national significance on behalf of the Australian Government.

Safety underpins everything that we do.

Our engineers are integral to our missions, playing a significant role in supporting our highly-modified fleet and much of the equipment integrated on board our aircraft.

We regularly seek passionate, team and safety focused engineers who understand the criticality of our missions to join our team. Leidos offers a wide variety of engineering roles, including:

  • licensed aircraft maintenance engineers (LAME) and non-licensed aircraft maintenance engineers (AME); and
  • mission systems technicians.

A unique aspect to your role as an engineer with Leidos is the close-knit nature of our operations – you are part of our team and our community, working closely with our crew to ensure our aircraft are safe and serviceable.

Licensed And Non-Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (LAME and AME)

Our licensed and non-licensed aircraft maintenance engineers are critical to the success of our operations. Based in either Cairns, Darwin or Broome, these roles support the performance and reliability of our Bombardier Dash 8 and Challenger 604 aircraft fleet, and the safety of our crew.

B1 And B2 LAME (Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers)

Our B1 and B2 LAME are responsible to the Quality Manager and Head of Maintenance for the supervision and certification of aircraft maintenance on behalf of Special Mission Engineering.

We offer an attractive salary package, with generous allowances, including relocation allowances for some of our more remote bases.

AME (Aircraft Maintenance Engineers)

Our AME are integral members of our engineering team, and report to the Senior Base Engineers for the completion of assigned aircraft maintenance.

All our AME must hold safety as a core value and contribute to the achievement of a zero harm and an incident / injury free environment through active participation in all safety programs relevant to the position.

Mission Systems Technicians

Mission Systems Technicians at Leidos can be based either in our Special Mission Technical Development team in Adelaide, or in our component Hot Mock-up Unit (HMU) in Cairns.

Those based in our Technical Development team in Adelaide are in the unique position of being involved with the design, build and testing of future aircraft mission systems and associated ground stations. They can also be heavily involved in research, development and implementation of modifications and various elements of flight testing.

While Mission Systems Technicians based at our HMU in Cairns are responsible for aeronautical product maintenance and line maintenance support of surveillance systems and sensors, providing electrical, instrument, radio and airborne network (LAN) services for the Leidos fleet and beyond.

Apprenticeships

We have opportunities at our maintenance bases in Cairns, Darwin and Broome for people keen to get into the aviation industry as an apprentice aircraft maintenance engineer.

There are three streams of engineering apprenticeships available, depending on your skill set and career aspirations:

  • B1 mechanical (engine airframe);

  • B2 avionics (electrical, instruments, radios); and

  • sheet metal (structure and non structure repairs).
